How’s your hip hinge? [video tutorial]

You may not know exactly what a hip hinge is but you should be performing it daily. When you perform a lot of lower body movements with your feet on the ground, a hip hinge should be part of it.

When you don’t hinge like you are supposed, different joints in the body get stressed in a bad way. Done over a long enough period of time, this can be a source of pain.

This pain is something that you would describe to someone else as “coming out of nowhere”. “It just started hurting one day”.

When people describe their pain in this way, there is almost always a movement component to their pain.

Change or improve the movement patterns and you start to get to the root of the cause of your pain.

The video below demonstrates a simple, yet very effective, drill to improve your hinge. Once you master this movement with a dowel or other device your goal is to carry it forward to all other movements.
